Mr Bennett’s nephew, Josephas Bennett, also known as Clifton, was quickly named by police as the chief suspect.
But one month after Errol’s death, his son, also called Errol, has been dismayed to find nobody has been arrested.
The 40-year-old said: “If the UK police had been involved, things would be moving a lot quicker definitely.
“It would have been wrapped up a week after it had happened, the English police work with some urgency.”
The family has been in touch with detectives at Preston police who they said have been very helpful.
But due to Mr Bennett having a dual passport the family said the British police cannot become directly involved.
He said: “The problem the UK police are saying they are having is the fact he has a dual nationality which means he is both a UK and Jamaican citizen.
“But he has an English passport, driving licence.
“He was born in Jamaica but put money into this country all his life.
“He worked over here for 35 years, it was only through ill health, having a metal plate put in his neck, that he had to stop.”
The Bennett family also own another house in the area, which has been wrecked by arsonists.
He added: “It has been burnt out. It is not far from where he was living, I got a call about it last Saturday.
“I thought it was some kind of joke, it is like a movie which has gone wrong.
“This is all so far fetched.”
Errol was born in Jamaica but moved over to Preston at the age of 15, where he went on to become a popular figure, including serving as chairman of the Jalgos Sports and Social Club in the city centre.
A spokesman for the Jamaican Constabulary Force declined to comment.
