A large contingent of heavily armed police officers from Portland and St. Mary swooped down on a house in the quiet community of Shrewsberry, in the hills of Hope Bay, and captured the two men, one who had absconded bail in Spanish Town and was wanted for a number of crimes.
Police said that they arrived at the location near dawn, and used tear gas to sift out the two, who they believed had fled Spanish Town and was seeking a safe haven in Portland, after their dens were dismantled by the security force.
A nine millimeter pistol along with 13 live rounds was recovered by the police during a search of the house.
Detectives spent the most of Tuesday interrogating the two men, who are expected to be charged today (Wednesday).
The Portland police are appealing to residents to be on the lookout for strange men in their community, and to inform them of any suspicious activity as criminal element since the stance taken by the security force to dismantle the various gangs, many gang members are fleeing to other parishes with the intent to reorganize themselves.
