On the first day four (4) records were broken as St. Mary High School Jodeen Williams accounted for two the class 1 girls 200 and 400 metres records in 24.48 and 55.75 seconds respectively. Williams told Observer Sports "I expected to break the 200 metres record but the 400 metres was a suprise as my teammate Titania Markland (59.75) is better than me. I am looking to win the 100 metres also. I am happy as I always wanted to break the record. Tomorrow (today) I am going to break the record in the 100 and 200 metres but I will have stiff competition in the 400 metres" she promised.
The other records are Margaret McKay Oberlin 4 minutes 59.91 seconds for the Class 2 girls 1500 metres and Paul Bogle Robert Thomas 50.13 metres for the Class 1 boys Discus.
Selected winners St. Mary Technical Tashane Riley in his final leap, leaped 6.91 metres to capture the class 1 boys long jump; Quasiann Green (Buff Bay) 5.29 metres (Long Jump) and 1.55 metres for class 2 girls high jump the same distance as Morant's Bay Raia James for class 1 girls; Titania Markland (St. Mary High) 5 minutes 20.01 - class 1 girls 1500 metres and teammate Gawayne Lawton 4 minutes 20.37 for the class 2 boys 1500 metres;
Everton Leslie of defending champions Oberlin who team was trailing said "I must commend Buff Bay for their performance in the field events that was proven today and they have some good finalist on the track. It's going to be good rivalry right down to the relays to decide this championship. We are strong on the track so we just have to see".
Kevin Brown Buff Bay's coach says "The athletes are doing just as they are told, they are working according to instructions, tomorrow (today) I am sure is going to be a different thing. We are in most of the finals and we expect to go all the as we are pretty confident".
