The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has lost one of its sitting councillors to the People’s National Party (PNP) ahead of local government elections, which are expected to be held soon.

Fairy Hill, Portland: Eight persons are now homeless after fire gutted their five apartment house just after midday Thursday at Fairy Hill in Portland. Eight persons occupied the house including three children but only one person was at the house at the time of the fire a physically challenged lady that was rescued by her neighbor Diamonte Williams. “I was at my bar and I saw the fire blazing from the other side of the fence; I ran over and I saw this disabled girl sitting on the verandah. When I came, I grabbed her because the fire was coming to her and she was just there shivering and put her in the bush and got back to the house. I kicked off the door to get out a cylinder that was in the fridge but the fridge was too heavy so I left it. I got scorched” as he showed his right index finger and hand.
